چکیده

Doñana National Park marshes, in South West Spain, extents over 27,000 ha of the Gualdalquivir River estuary, on the Atlantic Ocean coast. The site undergoes a yearly cycle of inundation in autumn and drying out during the spring season. While flooded, Doñana wetlands create a crucial passage, breeding and wintering site for more than half million waterfowl each year, including about 150 bird species. The park is also home to endangered species of flora and fauna. Doñana National Park was recognised as a Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme in 1980 and inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1994.

Envisat/ASAR Images for the Calibration of Wind Drag Action in the Doñana Wetlands 2D Hydrodynamic Model

Doñana National Park wetlands are located in southwest Spain, on the right bank of the Guadalquivir River, near the Atlantic Ocean coast. The wetlands dry out completely every summer and progressively flood again throughout the fall and winter seasons. Given the flatness of Doñana’s topography, the wind drag action can induce the flooding or emergence of extensive areas, detectable in remote se...

Multi-Polarization ASAR Backscattering from Herbaceous Wetlands in Poyang Lake Region, China

Wetlands are one of the most important ecosystems on Earth. There is an urgent need to quantify the biophysical parameters (e.g., plant height, aboveground biomass) and map total remaining areas of wetlands in order to evaluate the ecological status of wetlands. In this study, Environmental Satellite/Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ENVISAT/ASAR) dual-polarization C-band data acquired in 2005...

Recent Results about Asar Observations of Wetland Marshes

The paper describes how ASAR observations and electromagnetic models were used to obtain estimates of water level below two marshes with different vegetations structure in the Paraná River Delta in Argentina. The approach followed is based on the analysis of a temporal set of ENVISAT ASAR data which includes images acquired under different polarizations and incidence angles as well as different...

New Inversion Method for Snow Density and Snow Liquid Water Content Retrieval Using C - Band Data from Envisat / Asar Alternating Polarization in Alpine Environment

This study presents a new method to analyse some parameters of snow in alpine region: density, wetness. Here are developed the methodology and first results obtained from a set of ASAR-ENVISAT images registered during 2004 spring period over an experimental river basin located in the French Alps (N 45° 05’/ E 6° 10’). For ENVISAT/ASAR data, a topographic processing is done using a Digital Eleva...

Coupled Modelling of Land Surface Microwave Interactions Using Envisat Asar Data

In the last decades microwave remote sensing has proven its capability to provide valuable information about the land surface. New sensor generations as e.g. ENVISAT ASAR are capable to provide frequent imagery with an high information content. To make use of the multiple imaging capabilities of those sensors, sophisticated parameter inversion and assimilation strategies have to be applied. The...
